Interventional spinal care may be used for patients who are experiencing cervical and or lumbar spinal symptoms. If
indicated for your care, the most commonly used injections are local anesthetic and/or steroids. Our Interventional Spine
Specialists are trained in pain management and can administer spine and musculoskeletal diagnostic and therapeutic spine
injection procedures, including epidural steroid injections, at one of our physician’s offices. Our offices are equipped with
state of the art Fluoroscopy Suites in our offices to provide comprehensive interventional spine care.
The McKenzie Method is an overall program of assessment, treatment and prevention strategies (including exercise) for
managing back and neck pain. It provides pain relief to certain patients, by using physical therapy and exercise to extend the
spine. The long-term goal of the McKenzie Method is to help patients suffering from neck pain and/or back pain learn how to
treat and manage their own pain using prevention strategies and exercise. The Method helps patients reduce pain quickly so
they can return to normal daily activities, avoid postures and movements that cause recurring pain, and minimize the number
of visits to the spine specialist.
The Industrial Rehabilitation Program at Murphy Wainer helps injured workers return to work safely and effectively by
providing a continuum of services from prevention through comprehensive treatment and education. One of our highly trained
orthopedic physicians prescribes and monitors treatment, determines return-to-work status and supervises follow-up care.
Physical therapists promote strength, endurance and flexibility, and rehabilitation therapists use work simulation activities to
maximize work capacity.
Physiatry, or physical medicine and rehabilitation, deals with restoring function for a person who has been disabled as a
result of a disease, disorder, or injury. Physiatrists coordinate the rehabilitative needs of the patient, to promote a better
overall outcome. They treat the whole person, not just the condition, restoring as much function and independence as possible.
Rehabilitation physicians treat patients recovering from sports injuries, accidents, spinal cord injury, stroke, amputations, and
arthritis, and patients with chronic pain issues.
