Rebecca Bassett, MD, a physician at Murphy Wainer Orthopedic Specialists in Greensboro, has been awarded the Degree of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the national medical association representing nearly 127,600 family physicians, residents and medical students. She is one of about 18,000 nationally who have received this recognition, honoring physicians who have distinguished themselves through extensive continuing medical education, participation in public service programs outside their medical practice, conducting original research, and serving as a teacher in family medicine. AAFP Fellowship entitles Dr. Bassett to use the honorary designation, "Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians," or "FAAFP." Dr. Bassett, who earned sports medicine certification after completing her family medicine degree, sees patients for non-surgical orthopedics issues at Murphy Wainer. Dr. Dax Varkey is featured in See It To Be It (opens in a new tab/window), an initiative started at UNC Greensboro that creates and disseminates informational web-based videos about high social mobility career paths to middle and high school students in Guilford County, North Carolina. Ray Davis and Mark White, who both work as Murphy Wainer outreach athletic trainers at Southeast Guilford High School, were awarded the Mid- Atlantic Athletic Trainers Association 2020 Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award. The award recognizes a member of the North Carolina Athletic Trainers’ Association who has demonstrated an “exceptional commitment to leadership, volunteer service, advocacy, and distinguished professional service.” As part of her job duties at Murphy Wainer, Patty serves as the athletic trainer for Rockingham County High School – a position she has held for 20 years.
